The operational decision
Show whether a notification reached a system and whether a person took responsibility. A handoff is useful when the receiving staff member can identify the next action and its owner. Delivering a notification to a device is not the same as acknowledgment or a decision by an attorney.
Prepare the workflow
Use distinct sent, delivered, acknowledged and unresolved states where supported; define the staff action that changes acknowledgment.
Example wording for approval
“The example notification was delivered to the queue, but no staff member has acknowledged it. Follow the approved ownership and fallback process.”
Worked example
A fictional notification service reports delivered at 4:30, but no staff member accepts the task before the shift ends. The inquiry should remain unacknowledged and follow the firm's agreed ownership process. A later staff click can record acknowledgment with its responsible role and time. Do not overwrite the original delivery event; both facts help explain the delay. Test the dashboard and any caller update so neither treats network delivery as proof that an attorney has reviewed the request.
Handoff record
Record these task-specific fields: delivery state, acknowledgment owner, timestamp, fallback.
Acceptance check
Deliver an alert to an unattended test queue. The status must remain unacknowledged rather than treating transport delivery as human review.
